Managing Your Chronic Urticaria (CU) Through Shared Decision-Making

MANAGING YOUR CHRONIC URTICARIA (CU) THROUGH SHARED DECISION-MAKING

Working together to help you live a better life with CU

Chronic urticaria (CU) can be overwhelming, confusing, and frustrating. How often you get hives, itch, and swelling and how severe these symptoms are can change over time, making it difficult to know when you might need more help to manage your symptoms.

Your responses to this Shared Decision-Making Tool can help your healthcare provider (HCP) learn more about your experience with CU. Given busy lives, it can also be easy to forget certain information you would like to share with your doctor; it will help to serve as a memory aid.

After you complete the Shared Decision-Making Tool, it will produce a report. The report will also help your HCP partner with you to create or change your CU management plan (a personalized plan for the treatment and management of your condition) so it meets your needs and goals. WHAT TO EXPECT

This tool uses graphics, text, and video. It will ask questions about your experience and treatment preferences so you can discuss these with your doctor.

Answering these questions should take less than 10 minutes.

This process helps people with CU consider treatment and CU management options as well as set goals for treatment. It can help you in making decisions about the best treatment options for you and your family. It also helps your HCP understand more about your condition and its impact on your life.

When answering questions, the best choice is going to be the choice you feel most comfortable with and one that best fits your goals and lifestyle. At the end, you can print your report and take it to your healthcare team for further discussion or email it to an address of your choice. You can then talk to your doctor about your choices.

Know that a treatment that has been started or will be started may change over time depending on your response to treatment, side effects, or your satisfaction with the medication. There are multiple treatment options, and the treatment plan can be changed or modified at any time based on your condition, needs, and preferences. You may also make the valid choice not to start a treatment at this time—treatments can be started in the future, as well.
